The Superior- Truly a superior experience

My friend recently enjoyed his brunch at the Superior, therefore reminding me to give it another shot. I went to the Superior a few years back, and it was a horrible experience in that I didn’t get to taste any of the food[a longer story than I feel like typing out at the moment].

But three years later, and wow was I missing out. It was my birthday, and being that it was a beautiful summer day and my family was visiting me, the patio seemed a great idea. Nestled in a garden patio setting, the outdoor section of The Superior is a breath of fresh air. It has a very intimate and fun vibe, a great mix of people and conversations.

Our server, god bless her, had a personality, something that seems a rarity these days in servers. She offered great suggestions throughout the night, and humourous quips that I appreciated immensely. We tried cider, wine, and beer, and I recall a pleasurable cocktail as well. The Superior does a lot of small plates, which is ideal for sharing with friends and family.[I'll add photos at a later date, I'm currently writing this review on my new computer but I don't have it set up with everything yet]

My father ordered some baked beans which smelled delicious, my mother had a coconut-based soup which possessed an aroma that wafted across our table. I ordered the blasted broccoli, basically deep-fried broccoli(a first for me) with crispy onions and a kim-chi style vinaigrette, a brilliant pairing of spicy sour and sweet matched with crispy broccoli, wow. The arancini with buttermilk dressing was a knockout. We also had a margherita pizza with proper mozzarella di buffala bocconcini, basil and fresh tomatoes. It looked deceiving in how simple it was presented, but it was packed full of flavour. My father had a brisket/chuck burger which he enjoyed. This night was definitely an onslaught of  dish and dish. I was impressed with how consistently tasty everything was, god knows how picky I am, but I couldn’t really fault the seasoning, although I do think the chef has an affinity for his deep-fryer( but damn does he know how to use it).

The evening had great energy, great timings on the food, and very comfortable. The desserts didn’t disappoint either. I had the ginger spiced cake with a salted caramel sauce that I could drink buckets of. We also shared the chocolate pate(closer to a mousse but very nice) and an apricot tart( the apricots were still quite tart but it was nice for a contrast).

Overall it was a magical evening, and the Superior is back in my good books, living up to its name. The artwork inside is quirky and fun, the staff uniforms of kilts is an interesting take on uniforms too. I’ll definitely come back, and I will recommend it to vegetarians.

Cheers
